• Town of Grifton Commissioners

    Claude Kennedy

    Office campaigning for:

    Grifton Town Commissioner

What is your current job title? Retired school administrator

What is your highest level of education?

B.S. Health and Physical Education M.A. Ed. (Administration)

If elected or re-elected, what will be your top priority? Why?

I will work to promote a positive and optimistic image of Grifton among both newcomers and current residents. While it’s important not to ignore problems and needs in our town, more focus on our many assets and potential will help motivate citizens to get involved in town activities and volunteer opportunities. Promoting our appealing small-town lifestyle goes a long way towards attracting new residents and businesses

If elected or re-elected, how will you involve your constituents in the process of making decisions?

I have an open line of communication. I’m happy to listen to citizens’ concerns and suggestions and share them with the Town Manager and others on our elected Board. I’m interested in improving how we communicate information about town events and volunteer opportunities.

Why should voters choose you for the position you are running for?

I’ve been a citizen of Grifton since 1969, I’ve seen Grifton thrive and struggle, and I am completing a four-year term on the Town Board during which I’ve been very involved in town activities.

What three things about you do you most want voters to know?

I’m approachable; I don’t represent just one group or interest in Grifton but am concerned about improving the lives of all citizens; I care about my town.

Is there anything else you wish to say?

While planning for the future, it’s vital that our town takes good care of the facilities we have now.

What is your current job title?

Retired from both the Marine Corps and Higher Education.

What is your highest level of education?

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Master of Science in Systems Management, Master of Science in National Security and Strategic Studies. Completed all but one class in a Master of Science in Public Administration degree.

If elected or re-elected, what will be your top priority? Why?

Improve the image of the Town as "A Family Town." I was appointed 9 months ago to fill a vacant seat on the Board of Commissioners, and since then I've heard a number of comments from residents that they don't see the Town as living up to that motto. I hope I can be a part of making changes to correct that perception.

If elected or re-elected, how will you involve your constituents in the process of making decisions?

I'd like see the Town proactively communicate with the residents regarding Town government plans and decisions, and I'd like to see the residents more active as well by attending the Commissioners monthly meetings and make their thoughts known.

Why should voters choose you for the position you are running for?

I want to see the Town grow and prosper and I want to be a part of helping to make that happen.

What three things about you do you most want voters to know?

The quality of life in Grifton is uppermost in my mind; I am open to discuss Town issues with anyone; and I have ideas I would like to see moved forward for consideration by the residents.

Is there anything else you wish to say?

I and my wife have lived in Grifton for four years. Our daughter and her family are also residents. I want to see the town as a place families can be safe, enjoy, and thrive in and that the Town itself can flourish.
