• Pitt County Board of Education District 2

    Two Candidates

    Amy Cole

What is your current job and title?
Mathematics instructor at Pitt Community College
What is your highest level of education?
    Master’s degree
If you're elected or re-elected, what will be your top priority? Why?
If re-elected, my top priority will be to continue to work on increasing teacher supplements. We need to be competitive to our surrounding counties. In order to attract highly qualified teachers (especially in a time where there is a teacher shortage), we need to continue to work on this important topic.
If you're elected or re-elected, how will you involve your constituents in the process of making decisions?
If re-elected, I will always be open to my constituents reaching out and being part of the decisionmaking process. My phone is always open, and I am always open to receiving emails as well. I believe the first step in being involved is reaching out to your board member.
Why should voters choose you for the position you're running for?
I feel like I am very qualified for this position. I have voted in favor of many good things for PCS such as increasing teacher supplements, keeping the kids in person during COVID (as much as we could), and not banning books from our libraries, to name a few. I have been in the classroom for 20 years, so I know what it takes to be a leader.
Which three things about you do you most want voters to know?
I will ALWAYS put the needs of our children first over politics. I believe in doing what is best for all the students of PCS, not just my district. I am a good listener and am not easily swayed one way or the other and I do my research to really consider all sides to an issue before ever making a vote.
Is there anything else about you that you wish to tell voters?
I would really like the chance to be your voice for PCS for another term. I feel like I do have a lot to offer and there are many things that were hindered these past three years due to COVID. I would love another chance to get even more things accomplished for our children. I too have children (two boys) in PCS so I have an iron in the fire and a force that drives me to always do the best I can for all our children.
