Margaret Jones Reid vs. James E. Tripp Jr. vs. Herbert W. Wright

    Margaret Jones Reid

Current Job: I am currently employed with the Department of Commerce

Education: Graduate, J H Rose High School; bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management and Organizational Development., Mount Olive University; Doctor of Theology, Christian Life School of Theology - Anointed Ones Church Campus site.

Top priority if elected or re-elected:

My top priority is to partner with standing board members, parents, educators, students and community leaders to ensure we are taking the best steps to safeguard our children when it comes to safety, how to deal with COVID-19 in the best way possible for all schools, as well as ensuring we are providing the best educational venue and tools to assure higher academic standing.

How will you involve your constituents in the process of making decisions?

I will listen to the frontline workers in the field and hear what their needs are, then work to help bring that change.

Why should voters choose you for the position you are running for?

Voters should choose me for this position because I am concerned with what happens with our students. I am in touch with our educators and will work hard to assist with fulfilling the needs of our administration and students.

What three things about you do you most want voters to know?

I would like to share that I have four adult children reared in the Pitt County Schools. Each of my children are on their own career paths and I am very proud of each of them.

My parents, Mr. Cecil L Jones, retired from East Carolina University, and my mother, Mattie Lee Jones, retired from Pitt Memorial Hospital. They are both deceased but the values they instilled within me and my siblings will live on.

I am a current member of Anointed Ones Church in Ayden, North Carolina, for over 30 years under the leadership of Dr. Ruth Peterson and Dr. Helen Williams.

Is there anything else you wish to say?

The last thing I would like to share is my concern with the pipeline to prison. I would like to research this topic more and help bring a solution to black boys leaving high school and ending up in prison at an alarming rate. This is very troubling to me and I would like to be a part of the solution to the problem.

    James E. Tripp, Jr.

    Current Job: Retired

Education: High school, some college, Law Enforcement Executive Program and other training!

Top priority if elected or re-elected:

Top Five Concerns: School Safety (Faculty & Students), COVID-19 Preparedness, Racial Inequalities & Inequities, School Suspension Rates and School Construction & Maintenance. I believe that these are some concerns that I along with others want to see addressed. After talking with a number of parents, students and other concerned citizens I am compelled to address their concerns. I plan to address these concerns by learning all I can from the board and staff about Pitt County Schools and by meeting with various members of the community. Also, I plan to meet with the superintendent to understand his role and plans for the schools.

How will you involve your constituents in the process of making decisions?

I have plans of meeting with all of the concerned constituents periodically and have an open line of communications.

Why should voters choose you for the position you are running for?

I feel that with my experience in law enforcement and my involvement with Pitt County Schools through various programs that I was the supervisor of, and with my continued community involvement that I would be the best choice.

What three things about you do you most want voters to know?

    1) I am Fair, 2) Honest, 3) Trustworthy.

Is there anything else you wish to say?

If elected to the Board of Education I will represent all students, parents, schools, staff and concerned citizens in District 3 and Pitt County as a whole.

    Herbert W. Wright

Current job: ER Lewis Construction Company

    Education: High School Diploma

Top priority be if elected or re-elected?

My top priorities if elected are student and faculty safety and bridging the gap between the community and the school board. I will address these priorities by engaging parents in conversation regarding what they feel is needed to help build relationships outside of the school faculty as well as gaining knowledge about resources needed within the respective schools.

How will you involve your constituents in the process of making decisions?

I would like to involve the community in the discussion and decision-making process regarding District 3. I think the community has a great understanding of their needs and should be involved in helping to bridge the gap with the decision makers.

Why should voters choose you for the position you are running for?

I think voters should choose me for the position of District 3 School Board representative because I have lived in this community most of my life and have a strong understanding of what's needed as well as the outreach and support to get things accomplished.

What three things about you do you most want voters to know?

    1) I stand for the community, 2) I stand for the students of District 3, 3) I want to seek additional funding for under-served populations.

Is there anything else you wish to say?

I would like to see more community involvement within District.
