Grifton Board of Commissioners
Three Candidates
Ed Beiner Jr.
Your current job and title:
Store Manager at Leonard Truck Outfitters
Your highest level of education: High School Graduate
If you're elected or re-elected, what will be your top priority? Why?
One priority I want to address and focus on is the water issues around town on both the Pitt and Lenoir county sides. My neighbors are constantly talking about standing water in their yards after a bad rainstorm. I have the same issue. Most of the
time the water will soak into the ground within hours after the rain has passed, but there are times where water is still standing 24 hours later or
longer. Grifton is growing with houses, and I want to make sure houses and new
neighborhoods are not having water coming into their houses. The town has already been addressing areas that are having issues with flooding, and I want to make sure we keep addressing these issues as quickly as possible as we
continue to grow. I also want to make sure we are not having water pressure issues in our neighborhoods. Some areas sit higher up than where the pump stations are located. We need to look into upgrading and making sure our pump stations are in good working order, so our neighborhoods are not experiencing water pressure issues in their homes. If you're elected or re-elected, how will you involve your constituents in the process of making decisions?
I am a fan of good old fashioned face-to-face conversations. I am always willing to meet with anyone that has issues to see how they can be addressed. I also would like to have face to face conversations with people with items the town board may be voting on. Get a feel for what our neighbors’ thoughts are on a topic.
Why should voters choose you for the position you're running for?
I have served my community through volunteering with various organizations in town. I can't think of any other better way to serve Grifton than to represent my neighbors and Grifton as an elected Town Commissioner.
Which three things about you do you most want voters to know?
· Even though I may not be born and raised in Grifton, my family has called it home
for 11 years now. I have called North Carolina home for over 20 years now, too. I can't picture myself living anywhere else.· I have a lot of love for my community. I am always looking for ways to better our
community. Whether it's volunteering with various organizations in town or simply walking around town picking up litter.· I believe one of my best characteristics is listening to our community members' concerns. You may not get an immediate response to your concern, and it's because I do think over the importances of an issue before making a decision. I look at all potential sides of the issue and what effects a decision may have
on my family or my community. Is there anything else about you that you wish to tell voters?
One other priority on my list if elected to the town board is: activating our downtown
area. I have had people in the community tell me that downtown is boring,
gloomy, unappealing, etc. I would like to work with the community, the town board and organizations to activate Queen Street. I would like to see people walking around in the evenings. I know we need storefronts to be open for that to happen. If elected, I want to work with the town manager and other board members to see what options we have to improve Queen Street and have some activity on it.Claude Kennedy

Your highest level of education: Master’s in Education
If you're elected or re-elected, what will be your top priority? Why?
Like many small towns, Grifton has aging water and sewer rinfrastructure. To serve our longtime citizens and those moving into new Grifton subdivisions, board members like myself have worked with our new Town Manager to maintain and upgrade our infrastructure, which is a top priority for every resident.
If you're elected or re-elected, how will you involve your constituents in the process of making decisions?
Promoting a spirit of cooperation and community fellowship has been one of my major goals. Listening to citizens and seeking consensus on issues concerning our community has always been my approach.
Why should voters choose you for the position you're running for?
I have been a Grifton citizen for five decades, so I know about the town's past, its strengths, and areas needing improvement. I've served two
terms on the Board, and have made it a priority to personally observe town
property, town projects and town personnel.Which three things about you do you most want voters to know?
My three main areas of focus are these:
- Maintaining and upgrading our infrastructure (water and sewer)
- Maintaining and enhancing our parks, public spaces, and library for all citizens
- Promoting a spirit of cooperation and community fellowship among elected officials and paid town staff, and among citizens of the town
Is there anything else about you that you wish to tell voters?
I would like to see a strong turnout for our Grifton municipal elections. I encourage all citizens, no matter their party affiliation, to turn out and vote.
