    Farmville Commission Board

Voters Choose Two of Four Candidates

    Alma Cobb Hobbs

Alma Cobb Hobbs, candidate, Farmville Commission

    Your current job and title:

Retired Deputy Assistant Secretary for Administration

    Your highest level of education:

    Doctorate in Education and Sociology

If you're elected or re-elected, what will be your top priority? Why?

Transformational strategies reforming Farmville into a model town exemplifying community service, equity and inclusion -- “One Farmville”

If you're elected or re-elected, how will you involve your constituents in the process of making decisions?

It is imperative to engage citizens in decisions that impact them. It’s equally as important to have representation that reflects the population of the town. In order to meet the felt needs of citizens, their collective inputs are required.

Why should voters choose you for the position you're running for?

Voters should choose me because I have proven evidence of making a positive difference in the lives of youth, families and communities. One indication that a person is qualified for a job is when she is already doing the job. I would like to continue building on the progress and added value that I have contributed to the town.

Which three things about you do you most want voters to know?

    1. Willingness to serve and meet the needs of citizens, while clearly recognizing that everyone does not have equal access to equal opportunities. Having plans and strategies that are useful for addressing citizens’ concerns, issues and challenges.

    2. Acknowledging truth and building the infrastructure needed to bring about desired changes which are needed to solve citizens’ issues and problems. My model for problem solving is simple, ABC: acknowledge, build and change. (One can’t fix what you don’t acknowledge.) Once acknowledged, plans are needed to build what’s needed, thus bringing about desired changes.

    3. Addressing the disparity and inequalities among limited-resource citizens, which are often overlooked or underserved.

Is there anything else about you that you wish to tell voters?

I am here to serve, not to be served; therefore, I work to advocate for the citizen’s interest, I give voice to the choices identified by the people.

My life embodies a deep belief in embracing my gifts to serve and uplift others. My personal mission in life is approaching all things with love, thus making everything I touch better than I found it. Finally, I remain committed to others, making a difference in the lives of youth, families and communities.

    Carolyn Ward

    Carolyn Ward, candidate, Farmviille Commission

    Your current job and title:

    Retired from Vidant

    Your highest level of education:

    Attended Pitt Community College

If you're elected or re-elected, what will be your top priority? Why?

To build on progress of commissioners before me to continue to improve and grow our town and especially help our fire department obtain their own building, because they work so hard to keep us safe.

If you're elected or re-elected, how will you involve your constituents in the process of making decisions?

By listening and giving my input to new ideas and other concerns of the town.

Why should voters choose you for the position you're running for?

I have a heart for the whole town and all people. I also know how to make rational and educated decisions to help our town thrive.

Which three things about you do you most want voters to know?

I will listen to the concerns of the people and want to be part of the solution within our power.

Is there anything else about you that you wish to tell voters?

I have a heart for the people, I'm dedicated, already involved with community as president of Farmville Housing Development Corp., Communitywide Church Services, Community Soup Kitchen, Voters Education, and assisting people with rides to the polls.

    Jeffery Fields

Jeffery Fields, candidate for Farmville Commissioners

    Your current job and title:

I am a Program Coordinator in the field of IDD Services for individuals with Autism and other developmental
    disabilities.

    Your highest level of education:

I am a proud graduate of East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work

If you're elected or re-elected, what will be your top priority? Why?

I want to see improvements in infrastructure all over the town, improvements in recreational activities for our youth and adults, more activities for our senior citizens, so they don’t have to drive all the way to the Council on Aging in the Greenville/Winterville area just to participate in
activities. I want to see more small business opportunities. I want to attract more businesses, create more jobs, affordable housing, and a community that will work with the Board to make decisions in the best interests of everyone.

If you're elected or re-elected, how will you involve your constituents in the process of making decisions?

By listening to the citizens and having them tell me what they want and what they need. We can’t do everything all at once. But we can
prioritize those needs and check them off one by one. But also having the citizens work together with town officials to find solutions to many of the issues we face. People tend to be more accepting of solutions, when the people have been involved on the front end and had the opportunity to give input.

Why should voters choose you for the position you're running for?

I’m honest, I’m trustworthy, and I’m not self-serving. I intend to serve with honesty and integrity and will not allow my integrity to be compromised. I also have the best interest of the Town and its citizens in mind. I’m going to do what’s right for everyone. I’m going to work hard at this job to make sure I am looking at issues from every angle and every perspective.

Which three things about you do you most want voters to know?

    1) I was born and raised here in Farmville; 2) I am a servant at heart; 3) I have the best interest of the Town and its citizens in mind.

Is there anything else about you that you wish to tell voters?

Servant leadership is one of my greatest strengths. I’m a servant first and foremost, and I will lead by example. If there’s something that needs to be done, let’s come together, find a way to get it done, and let’s do it together. I’m willing to roll up my sleeves and work with everyone.
My vision for this town is to have citizens and town officials work together to promote growth for the town and a good life for all who live here and surrounding areas. Life is Team sport, and when we work together to get things done, everyone wins.
